Jupiter – The Giant of Our Solar System
Th.tư, 22/10/2025, 11:21 Lượt xem: 3248

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system, so massive that it's more than twice as heavy as all the other planets combined! Often called a gas giant, Jupiter is made mainly of hydrogen and helium, just like a star - but it never became big enough to ignite and start burning.

From a distance, Jupiter looks like a planet painted with swirling clouds and colourful stripes. These are bands of gas and storms, some so large they could swallow Earth whole!

Structure and Surface

Jupiter doesn't have a solid surface like Earth. Instead, it's made of thick layers of gas that gradually compress into a super-hot, dense interior. Scientists aren't yet sure whether Jupiter has a small, rocky core deep inside or if it's just a massive ball of dense, hot gas all the way through.

Its most famous feature is the Great Red Spot - a massive storm that's been raging for hundreds of years and is bigger than Earth!

Jupiter also has a ring system, but unlike Saturn's bright rings, Jupiter's rings are faint and hard to see. They're made mostly of tiny dust particles thrown up by meteor impacts on its moons.

Time on Jupiter

Jupiter spins faster than any other planet in the solar system!

One day on Jupiter lasts only 10 Earth hours.

One year (one complete orbit around the Sun) takes 11.8 Earth years.

That means Jupiter's days are short and its years are long - quite the opposite of life on Earth!

Jupiter's Neighbours and Moons

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun, between Mars and Saturn.

It has a huge family of moons - 95 officially recognised so far! The four largest moons, called the Galilean moons, are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Each is unique: Io has active volcanoes, Europa might have an ocean under its icy surface, Ganymede is the biggest moon in the solar system, and Callisto is covered in craters.

A Quick Look at Jupiter's Exploration

Jupiter has been known since ancient times and is easily visible without a telescope. Over the years, several spacecraft have visited or flown past this gas giant, including Pioneer 10 and 11, Voyager 1 and 2, Cassini, New Horizons, and the current Juno mission.

Like Earth's northern lights, Jupiter even has auroras - beautiful light displays at its poles. But Jupiter's auroras are hundreds of times stronger and never stop glowing!

The Mighty Planet

Jupiter stands as a true giant among planets with its gigantic storms, dozens of moons, and mysterious interior. It helps shape our solar system by influencing the orbits of asteroids and comets - acting almost like a cosmic guardian.

Jupiter reminds us just how powerful and awe-inspiring our universe can be.
