English is considered a global language, and it can bring students lots of good opportunities, such as making new friends worldwide and travelling to foreign countries. Learning English is a long and challenging process since students may encounter lots of challenges during their learning journey. However, learning English can be an exciting journey as it helps develop good habits, learn to face challenges and bring many significant achievements. 
 

Good habits

 

When it comes to learning English, building good habits is important, as habits can help a lot in improving English skills. So, the question is, how to build good learning habits? 
 

First of all, setting clear goals and creating study schedules are important. Students should set achievable goals, such as learning a certain number of words or completing some chapters of a book. Try to practice regularly by sticking to the schedule, or just spend about 15 minutes every day practising. 
 

Secondly, using many different learning resources can make the learning journey more interesting. Students can read a mix of books, watch their favourite movies or cartoons or listen to their favourite songs on apps or websites. A variety of learning resources will help a lot in improving English skills, and make learning English more enjoyable.  
 

Lastly, tracking progress is advisable. Having regular reviews helps remember what students have learned better. Then, students can take quizzes or tests monthly to know which areas or skills need improvement. Therefore, they can adjust their learning schedules to meet their needs. 
 

Challenges
 

Learning English can be challenging sometimes, as learners can face lots of difficulties during their learning journey. 
 

Students might find it difficult to understand all the English grammar rules, as there are too many rules and exceptions. A recommendation for students is to regularly practice specific grammar rules and their exceptions to become familiar with them. What is more, they should practice using grammar in context through writing, speaking, and listening exercises. 
 

Pronunciation is also a challenge for many English learners, as it has unique sounds that might not exist in other languages. Moreover, word stress is also a problem for lots of students, as there are too many rules to follow, and incorrect stress can lead to misunderstandings. Therefore, students might practise using the phonetic charts to learn and practise different English sounds. Listening to native speakers through various media, such as movies and songs also helps students be familiar with correct pronunciation and pronunciation. 
 

Learning vocabulary is considered a significant part of learning a language. Since English has a vast number of words, learning vocabulary can sometimes be overwhelming for most English learners. Students should have effective learning strategies to study new words, such as using flashcards or using modern applications. Students can also practise by reading books and articles to encounter new vocabulary in context to have a deep understanding of the words. 
 

Achievements
 

“Practise makes perfect”, and there are many achievements awaiting students. To lots of students, achievement is reaching milestones in language proficiency or winning an English-speaking competition. Another achievement is speaking to native speakers and making new friends around the world. Additionally, the ability to read English books, and watch movies without subtitles is a great accomplishment for many learners. 
 

Learning English is a difficult but exciting journey. This journey shall begin with good habits, such as strictly following the learning schedule. Challenges are a part of the process, and students should learn to overcome such things to gain achievements. With a positive learning attitude and consistent effort, students can enjoy their English learning journey and have fun along the way!
