The book, the first of its kind in Vietnam, provides readers with new concepts and knowledge on the vital role of the environment in sustainable development, and is also a valuable document for managers, scientists and students, who are interested in studying environmental security and sustainable development, said Prof. Dr. Pham Binh Quyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE).
The 300-page book has three parts and eight chapters, focusing on national and transnational conflicts over natural resources, and security threats from natural disasters and environmental incidents. It also touches upon other environment-related issues such as cross-border environmental pollution, refugees and ecological upset.
Challenges and legal foundations to solve conflicts about natural resources and environmental pollution are also mentioned in the book.
The book was compiled by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hoe, from the environment department of Hanoi University of Natural Sciences, and Dr Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, VACNE President, and published by the Science-Technology Publishing House./.
