The Samsung-HUST Mobile Communications lab worth nearly US$62,000 is equipped with computers, laptops, projectors, laser printers and photocopiers provided by Samsung Vina.

The project’s goal is to foster cooperation between Samsung Vina and HUST. It is also the first step towards establishing a Samsung Research and Development (R&D) center in Vietnam, according to the company.

At the ceremony on Tuesday, representatives of the two partners discussed setting up a Samsung R&D center in the country. When it is operational, it will give Vietnamese students access to the  latest technology in the electronics, telecom, IT and mobile sectors.

In addition, the establishment of an R&D center would add trained human resources for hi-tech projects in the Northern region including the Samsung complex project in Bac Ninh Province.

Koh Dong Jin, vice chairman for R&D of Samsung’s cell phone sector, said in a statement that: “Samsung – HUST Mobile Communications lab and R&D center project at HUST shows that we are interested in education, training and Vietnam’s younger generation.”

Samsung’s long-term target is to develop the planned R&D center in Vietnam into one of the company’s largest testing facilities worldwide.

In addition, Samsung hopes to create favorable conditions for students to study and research in order to train high-quality human resources.
